X-Rays
High quality x-rays. Used to help diagnose fractures, internal injury, cardiovascular disease, spinal/joint disease, abdominal disease. Can usually be taken and interpreted the same day. May use sedatives if less stressful to patient. Safe, quick, economical.
Ultrasound
Newest modality. Can see “detail” not visible with conventional x-ray (i.e. think picture of pre-born baby in mothers womb). Can see very small abnormalities (less than 3mm). Can see or biopsy things previously requiring anesthesia or surgery. High yielding diagnostic devise. Used extensively.
Echocardiology
The study of the heart with ultrasound. Can visualize vessels, valves, heart musculature, and blood flow. Critical component to evaluate cardiac disease. Cost effective, often combined with other heart evaluation methods (i.e. EKG, x-ray).
