Dr. Current grew up on the farm where he, his wife, and seven children live today. He has always had an interest in animals, raising cattle and horses growing up. He went to the Ohio State University as an undergraduate and was one of the few students to be accepted into the College of Veterinary Medicine as a junior. He graduated with honors in 1989 with his doctorate degree in veterinary medicine.
Dr. Current has written and published various articles on veterinary care for both lay and professional veterinary magazines.
Dr. Current married his wife, who is also a veterinarian. He traveled to California and Arizona to gain training before returning to Ohio to work with a large multi-doctor practice in Ashland for four years.
Dr. Current began the Community Veterinary Clinic in 1992, in Sidney. He is an organized and meticulous man with a mind for details. He thrives on a fast pace and multiple tasks. As a Christian man, he has a deep commitment to the local church, and his faith spills over in his professional life with the highest level of care, compassion, and integrity. Though responsibilities at work are many, his priority is his wife and children. Dr. Current’s wife home schools their children on a family farm. The number of children along with the farm setting provide a wonderful dynamic for his family.
Dr. Current’s family has farmed for generations. He, his father, and sons farm a large number of acres and still raise angus cows and a few horses. Though seemingly always busy with some new project, Dr. Current’s hobbies are farming and woodworking. He does grain farm but especially enjoys raising cattle, some of which are recognized nationally as some of the best in breed. He jokes that his woodworking skills are no more than knowing how to drive a 16p nail (which was true at one time). He has made the cabinets and trim at the offices as well as the entire kitchen and other furniture pieces at his home.
As a veterinarian, Dr. Current most enjoys difficult cases and working with people. He will often tell a frustrated client “if you will work with me step by step, we can get to the bottom of any health problem.”
Though he often tells he was not a “people person,” he quickly admits he has become one and enjoys our clients as much as his patients.
Dr. Current’s heart is to care for his faith, his family, and the people who trust their pets to him.

Dr. Laura Jackson received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Auburn University in 2011. She had previously graduated from Michigan State University in 2007 with a B.S. in zoology.
Dr. Jackson lives in Columbus, OH with her husband, Kenneth, their daughter, Bailey, and their dog, Jordan. Kenneth attended graduate school at The Ohio State University and now works for the university as a biostatistician. They enjoy traveling and are involved in their local church. Dr. Jackson is also an avid runner.
Dr. Jackson grew up in northern Alabama and made the decision to become a veterinarian at a young age. Her first job after graduating veterinary school was in St. Clairsville, OH at a busy animal hospital where she saw both routine appointments and emergency cases.
She and her husband then moved to northern Virginia, and she worked at suburban small animal clinic. After a few years, they decided to move back to Ohio, and Dr. Jackson started working at Community Veterinary Clinic in February 2017.
Dr. Jackson enjoys forming long term relationships with clients and helping their pets to have happy and healthy lives.

Dr. Maria Fusco is very excited to be the newest addition to the Community Veterinary Clinic staff. Born and raised in central Pennsylvania, Dr. Fusco completed her bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences at Point Park University and worked for a year afterwards in Pittsburgh, PA before moving to Columbus in 2013. She completed her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at The Ohio State University in 2017 and practiced small animal medicine at two busy clinics in northern Ohio for over a year before joining our team. Once a week, Dr. Fusco also dedicates time at a local volunteer program (Faithful Forgotten Best Friends) that provides basic wellness care, preventative medicine and education to pets of homeless and less fortunate families in the community. Her other professional passions include senior and geriatric patient care as well as Dermatology and Soft Tissue Surgery.
Dr. Fusco has an extensive dance and performing arts history, and still enjoys taking open dance classes at BalletMet and local studios from time to time. She also really enjoys hot yoga, aerial fitness, running, and gardening when she is not spending time with her fiancé, Aaron, or cuddling with her two cats (“Teenie” and “Trip”—short for “tripod”).
