Keeping pets healthy begins with prevention … not waiting to react.
At Community Veterinary Clinic, we preach prevention first. While some illnesses and injuries can’t be avoided, many can, and we’ve seen firsthand how preventive care can keep pets healthier, happier, and living longer.
Preventive medicine is the best way to protect your pet’s health and help keep veterinary costs lower over their lifetime. By focusing on regular checkups, vaccinations, parasite prevention, dental care, and early detection, we can catch problems before they become serious.
Why Wellness & Prevention Matters
Pets age faster than people, about seven times faster. That means changes in their health can happen quickly. Regular visits help us catch small issues early, often before you notice anything is wrong.

Note: Vaccinations are still important for older pets. We tailor vaccine schedules based on your pet’s age, health, and lifestyle to ensure they remain protected without unnecessary risk. Our team will provide a detailed prevention plan during your wellness exams. |

Environmental Risks Where We Live
Living in West-Central Ohio means your pet may face unique health risks throughout the year. Our preventive care plans are designed with these in mind:
- Heartworm Disease: This disease is spread by mosquitoes and is active from early spring through late fall (and occasionally during mild winter days).
- Ticks & Lyme Disease: Deer ticks and Lone Star ticks are common in wooded and grassy areas, especially from spring through late fall. Tick prevention is recommended year-round.
- Leptospirosis: Found in standing water, soil, and puddles frequented by wildlife. It is most common after heavy rains.
- Fleas: Thrive in warm, humid months but can survive indoors year-round.
- Seasonal Allergies: Pollen, mold, and other allergens can cause itchy skin, ear infections, or respiratory symptoms in dogs and cats.
Prevention is always easier and more affordable than treatment. Ask us about customizing a plan that keeps your pet protected all year long.
